CURRICULUM

Nursery

The Nursery (ages 3 to 15-16 months) is for infants who still can’t walk or have just started to walk. The Nautilus Nursery is designed for 9 children, which is the ideal number for the Montessori method, as it ensures enough socialisation and allows the teaching team to focus on and accompany the growth of each one of them.

The prepared environment and sensory materials

The setting encourages children’s sensory development without overstimulating them. It also allows them to move around freely and safely. Materials are chosen based on their size and the children’s strength. Mirrors, activity mats, play gyms, rattles, and sensory toys can be pulled, pushed, stacked, and nested, allowing children to explore and follow their instinctive curiosity while also developing their visual, tactile and auditory senses and improving balance and eye/hand coordination. Language plays an important role in all daily activities. Children learn to absorb languages because they are associated with the activities they are performing.

    Activities at the child’s pace

Children are greeted at the nursery between 08:00 and 09:00 a.m. Every activity during the day is done at the child’s pace, especially changing and sleeping. During early learning, children are free to explore both indoors and outdoors. Once they are familiar with the setting, they will start showing their inclination towards certain activities, which are suggested first according to how their interest in the other areas evolves. The Montessori guide monitors each child’s progress and suggests new discoveries, respecting their pace and inclinations.

    Mealtime as an educational moment

At the nursery, younger infants eat on their own according to a schedule. Infants who can’t sit at the table yet are fed on the educator’s lap while the others eat at a table their size, face-to-face with their guide. Infants who are nearly one year old and toddlers eat in groups of two or three at the same table with a teacher.

Here at Nautilus, mealtimes are essential in children’s growth and wellbeing. That’s why we have a kitchen managed by qualified personnel who are aligned with our school’s vision. Every morning, they prepare nutritious meals using only fresh, seasonal ingredients. The Montessori principles are followed even at mealtime to promote independence, the joy of discovery, and good eating habits. Mealtime is not just about nourishment. It’s an essential learning experience for a child’s harmonious development.
